About
History of Chingona Movement in Texas
In 2012, a fierce Latina named Deena A. Trigo-Herrera started the Chingona movement in the Rio Grande Valley. Inspired by Sandra Cisneros, Deena created a space where Latinas could celebrate, unite, and feel empowered. Deena continued to create this space until 2016 but the Chingona fire did not die there. Deena passed on the torch to Denise D. Hernandez.
In 2018, Denise of Hustle for the Cause, LLC., worked with community leaders and Texas creatives to launch Chingona Fest Texas, an annual statewide music festival and conference with a social impact. Chingona Fest Texas continues to grow each year serving over 1500 attendees and 60+ Latinx Vendors from all around the United States.
As Chingona Fest Texas continues to expand, the goal of the Chingona Fest Movement remains the same – to inspire and empower the Latinx community.
